Met this handsome pair of Bar-tailed Godwits on a local beach the other day. I have never been able to approach this specie this closely, so I was quite happy. I was standing in waistdeep water shooting the birds which were standing on a sandbar. I think it's interesting to see how much larger the female is.

Hello Helge
It's a good image of the birds, but it is made so much better by the waves, which add a nice third dimension to the photograph.
Best wishes

The waves make it, would have liked a catch light in the eye, but a good photo nonetheless.
Cheers Simon
An excellent shot, the waves and water really make it, and great to get a male and female together in such a nice pose. Only nit from me is I would prefer this shot taken from a position further to the right so the birds are shown from the light side rather than the shady side.
cheers

Hi helge
a great shot of the godwits and I agree the waves makes this a superb picture. You deserve the shot wading waist deep into water. I hope your camera gear is well insured!

The things you do to get the shot - and a nice shot it is too . If you're starting to stand that deep in water, then I think you need a pair of waders and a floating hide....
