Lonely Puffin
Puffin, Bempton Cliffs
1DII, 500/4, 1.4x

Decided to go and visit Bempton Cliffs yesterday to see what it was like, and also in the hope that there might be a few Puffins and Auks still around despite it being the end of their breeding season. There weren't many Puffins left and this chap was about the only lonely puffin enjoying a bit of peace and quiet near to the top of the cliffs. I deliberately tried framing this shot to try and bring out a bit of the solitude. We did see a few other puffins much later in the day, but they flew in to the base of the cliffs, well out of range.

Although the Auks have mainly disappeared, there are still tons of Kittiwakes there and a lot of Gannets too. A lot of the Kittiwakes at Bempton seem to have done well with two chicks - far more than the birds on May had, many of which had no chicks at all :frown:.

Hello Nick
Yes, the composition works very well, it almost makes you feel sorry for the bird!
Best wishes

Hi Nick, I think you succeded well in showing the story of the lonely Puffin. Only improvement would be a bit more of a headturn to be able to see more of the beak. :toast:

Hi Nick

An excellent composition which has a good storyline too. Can't really fault it, Puffin looks very sad and lonely.....

cheers

Beautiful shot of Bempton Cliffs. I'd be tempted to clone that rogue Puffin out though
Nicely done and a good idea. Poor thing.. you've captured it very well.

Hi Nick,

I think you've captured the solitude and the bird within it's enviroment very successfully.
