Does anyone have a recommendation of where to go? Debating on Great Sand Dunes, Moab, UT or something that is within 8 hours or so drive. Does anyone have good suggestions for a shoot? Also, I am disabled so can only hike for about 2 miles one way on my crutches. Any help would be appreciated. :toast:

Within 8 hours of Denver? There are so many good places within 8 hrs that are accessible by car even that it would be impossible to list them all. Great Sand Dunes might actually be a fairly hard one to do on crutches. If you want to shoot southwest scenes and you don't mind the heat by all means go to Moab. There are lots of arches & overlooks that are short hikes from parking lots.

I agree with Tony, within 8 hours drive doesn't narrow your choices down much. If you have never been to the Moab area it certainly has an abundace of locations that require only short hikes or overlooks. Maybe take a look at some websites of other forum members and see if something looks like it might be a location that really interests you. There is a wealth of information about our state gathered on them. Wherever you go, enjoy!

It is more like 9 to 10 hours, but the Badlands in SD are really nice. I haven't been back there in a few years (wow, now that I think about it, quite a few years!) but I remember it being one of the neatest places I have seen. I keep trying to plan a trip back there, but it always seems to fall through. You also get to go by Devils Tower, and go through the Black Hills.

Also, don't discount Mesa Verde and the Four Corners area. There are some really neat canyons and desert buttes down that way.

2 miles, one way on crutches??? That's quite a workout!! I was on crutches a few months ago because of a bone spur. I had no idea of how tiring that is!!!

Although Great Sand Dunes NP offers good photography from close to the roads, I would find it frustrating not to be on the dunes. Of your two options, I would choose Moab, assuming you will stay close to an air conditioned car.

For something closer, you could consider Black Canyon of the Gunnison &/or Colorado National Monument. Lots of good overlooks and short hikes from the roads in both parks.
