I was surfing the photo forums as I am amused to read how the grass is always greener with a different camera brand. I found something really weird- a helpful tip.
"The other day I bought at "Staples" office supplies a kit for detecting fake money. It came with a sharpie and an ultra-violet mini light.
My son started to play around with this light and discovered that when pointing to lenses or the camera itself it would show all the dust particles in a "greenish glowing manner". Very very visible.
We thought we would try it on the sensor so we got into the bathroom (to get darkness). We locked the mirror up and flashed this mini ultra-violet light inside the sensor housing.
We could very clearly see a little bunny in the sensor and 5 or six dust particles inside the housing around the sensor and ready to hop into it. We used a "Giottos" rocket blower to move the dust out of the sensor and the whole surroundings. Not in a blind way but really seeing what we were doing.
Just wanted to share this cool finding.
Best regards,
Pablo "
I tried this with a cheap and small UV light and it really does make the dust glow plain as day. It just makes the whole sensor/ lens cleaning task so much easier. Just thought I'd pass it down the line. Have a great day!
