Greater Spotted Woodpecker (Juv)
Canon EOS 1D MKII, 600mm f4 non IS, f7.1, 1/2000, ISO 800, RAW, RSE, CS2, Wimberley head, G1548 tripod, Fill Flash, Hide, Full Frame.

Hi All,

I've just had a fantastic weekend with Phil Shaw on his Wildlife Photography workshop, the amount of opportunities and species was fantastic. I would highly recommend going on one to anybody who is thinking about it.

This young GSW was a real star and gave me lots of images.

Other species I got images of were: Badger, Fox, Squirrel, Brown Hare, Jay, Magpie, Greenfinch, Blue Tit, Collard Dove, Turtle Dove, Common Sandpiper, Avocet, Lapwing, Little Grebe, to name a few.

All comments welcome

Regards

Rob

Hi Rob

A good classic shot of the woodpecker, great detail and exposure and I like the background colour too. I guess you probably didn't intend ISO800 for this shot but this image looks nice and clean anyway.

It sounds like you had an excellent and very productive weekend, I would be happy to photograph that range of species in a year, let alone 2 days. Looks like you will have a rich source of images for posting on the forum over the coming weeks, I am looking forward to seeing some more of your shots.

Hello Rob
Exposure dead on, colour dead on, detail dead on, and a perfect BG, looks like uncle Phil has been waving his magic wand
It must have been a very useful workshop with excellent result.
Best wishes

Hi Rob,

Very nice image indeed. Like Sean said, I 'd be happy to see those species in a year too. Love the comp and background and the sharpness is superb. The fill-in has been executed superbly. Also intrigued by your choice of techs, mainly the shutter speed and ISO. Was this done purposely? Really good processing too. If I'd have used 800 i'd be hard pressed to see the Woody through the noise

Where was Phil's workshop? Do you have any details?

Hi Guys,

Thanks all for your comments so far.

Regarding the ISO setting, it was an error  , when I got in the hide at first light it was very dull and overcast, then by about 8am the cloud broke up a little giving sun then cloud, so light was very up and down, but yes I should have changed the ISO

Graeme if you send Phil a PM, I'm sure he will answer any questions you may have. The workshops are in south Essex.

Great shot with great colours and exposure - very very minor nit a little tight in the frame for me!
