Hi All

On again, off again lurker here. I keep telling myself to get with the program and contribute, so here I am. Hopefully I have posted this photo correctly. It was taken in Glacier about a week ago as the sun was going down. I've increased the contrast and think it makes for a moody shot, but I would love some feedback. Is it too dark?

Thanks for looking

Brian

Brian, I think it's a nice shot, but for me there is a bit too much black in the foreground, but that's a small individual nit. Oh and Welcome, looking forward to more from you.............J

Ooh, I never got to Lake McDonald in decent lighting when I was there a few weeks ago. Nice job! Maybe try cropping it as a pano shot? Although you'd lose the effect of the log...

Nice shot. I like the log in the foreground and the colors.

I like it, Brian. The bottom is a little dark for my tastes, but the color in the sky and reflection help balance things out. Looking forward to seeing more!

You did a very good job capturing a mood, and I like the mood it gives. I think you could have gotten away with the lower left being as dark as it is if there was more light on the log. A fill flash could have helped. I am assuming this was a fairly long exposure. What I have done when I want a bit more light on a foreground detail, but don't want it to be direct, is keep my flash in my hand, and after I release the shutter, I lean over, in this case to the right, and pop the flash. You might also try creating a layer, and seeing if you can brighten the log somewhat. All in all, though, I really like this shot!

Thanks Everyone,

I appreciate the comments. I took another similar shot with a different log that is lighter. I'll get it uploaded and post it here. I'd be interested to see what your thoughts are in comparision to this shot.
