Magpie
Canon EOS 1D MKII, 600mm f4 non IS, f7.1, 1/2000, ISO 800, Wimberley head, G1548 tripod, Hide, RAW, RSE, CS2, Full Frame.

Hi All,

Another shot from my weekend workshop with Phil.

The Magpie was one of a family of about four visiting the area.

All comments welcome

Nice shot Rob.
Maybe the eye needs a little more sharpening??
Also there appears to be a dark spot to the right of the secondaries on the right wing. Dust maybe?

Another good shot from your workshop anyway.

Hi Rob

Excellent shot Rob, you have caught the Magpie in a perfect pose showing the full length of those tail feathers.

This is a great portrait of this bird with good detail in the blacks. My only nit is I think the image is too flat and needs some additional contrast and saturation to bring out the vibrant colours.

I had a quick bash at your image, have a look at it here and see if you agree or not.

Great shot though, I'd be very happy with that one. :toast:

Hi Guys,

Agree it could do with a bit of a lift, is this better?? Just tweaked contrast and saturation and givbe another couple of rounds of USM.

Sean for my personal taste yours looked a little to saturated, but thanks anyway.

Superb Rob. I think the second is a lot better. Great pose and shows the colours really well of a common but often overlooked beautiful bird. Must admit, probably one of the best I've seen of these. The pose, BG and perch are wonderful. Good skills indeed.

Hi Rob
I prefer the second picture and you have bags of detail in the plumage of the bird.

Hi Rob,

I think this is a really fine portrait with a great pose from the bird, especially that sideways head turn.
The angle and light, shows the colours off superbly.
Also shows that powerful beak and colourful long tail off to good effect.

The re-post looks best,IMO.

Nice work.
