I'm going to backpack here very soon, probably for a couple nights. Lake Ann looks beautiful in the few pics I've found online, but the Flat seems to be the place to be for photography. I know at least a few of you here have been there recently. Any suggestions for camping in the area? (Above treeline is fine.) And is it best to access the Flat from the Lake Ann area?

I'm sure all of this will be fairly obvious once I get there, but it's nice to know what to expect ... and I welcome any additional tips. Thanks!

Hey Jesse,

I almost went there last week, but opted out due to crappy weather. It doesn't appear to be a very easy route from Lake Ann, like I suspected it would be. Instead, I think the thing to do is follow an outflow stream that crosses the Lake Ann trail before you get to Lake Ann.

When are you going? I might meet up with you for an evening shoot if you're up for it, and then hike out. E-mail me if you're interested.

Hi Jesse,

I just returned from a 10 day pack trip in Wyoming so I'm a little late replying. Not too late I hope.

Lake Ann is located in a bowl and I don't think the views from there will be all that good, but I haven't been there. I like the large tarn at about 12,100 feet (the upper one). Stunning 360 views from that spot. I was blessed by amazing light but it didn't last long.

Take the Lake Ann trail most of the way to Lake Ann and then take a right when you reach the last stream crossing. Bushwack up the hill roughly following the water and keep an eye open for deer. There are some decent camp sites just below the tarn. It's well above treeline and windswept.

Hope that helps.
