During my recent trip to the Crested Butte and San Juan Mountain areas I photographed the sunrise and sunset reflections at Paradise Pass a couple of times. Overall, I found the first pond near the road to give the most pleasing compositions. This shot is from sunrise and the peak cloud colors only lasted a few minutes. Any suggestions on composition and such are welcome. Thanks, Kipp.
Hi Kipp,
I like it. Good exposure and I'm a sucker for color in any nature image. I like the balance of the trees and clouds, even with the horizon in the center. However, the roads are distracting and tend to pull the eye away from the main subject. Cropping out the road would have eliminated the sky and reflection, so there may not have been much you could have done here.... Perhaps repositioning?

Ken,
Thanks for the comments. I searched several positions and this seemed to be the best one. In fact some form of road basically circles the small pond. I don't like the roads and find them a little distracting as well. I think my only option would be to take them out in Photoshop, so I decided not to go there. Kipp.

Looks like you should be handing out suggestions instead of asking for them. This is a great shot! I would PS the roads and reflections. We're not making documentary photos, after all.

This is a beautiful photo, with or without the road. The light and the composition are great. Thanks for posting.

Very nice shot. I agree that PS'ing out the roads would be acceptable.

I think this is a strong image and I really like it, but as others have said the road is the only distraction. I was wondering if you could have done a vertical from the same position and lose the road?
I dig it Kipp, and would have no problem getting rid of the road. Heck, even a simple crop from the right to get it out would result in a still very pleasing image!
I'm planning on being up there the weekend of the 19th, and would love to have a morning like this! Thanks for sharing!

I will not get too picky here... I would love to have this shot in my arsenal. Good catch!
