Polar Bear, Ursus maritimus
Churchill, Manitoba
The Polar Bear is the most carnivorous of the North American bear species. Its diet consists mainly of seals. It has an acute sense of smell, enabling it to locate its prey beneath thick ice floes. The strands of its fur are hollow, insulating against the cold and increasing the bear’s buoyancy when swimming.
