The original photo is along the Indiana Dunes National Shoreline. I desaturated and added texture and used seagull & cloud photoshop brushes...

What an interesting title, Amy. The gulls are an inspirational touch.

Very, very appealing image filled with the grayness of a day ...

Nice job :toast:

Amy, put on your artist cap, because you are one. My favourite painter is Constable and this really does have that look and feel about it. In his case, I'll pretend this is a lake. Reading what you added, well thats a great addition and balances this well. An aged tone about it which really suits the effects you have.

All the best Amy, excellent aged painterly effect. Love it. :toast: :toast:

Thank you so much, Carol & Danny! I appreciate the kind comments...

Danny - I've been experimenting with textures, and this is a result of some late night experimenting! LOL Despite my title, this is actually on the shores of Lake Michigan (which might as well be an ocean). I loved the view, but the sky was so drab - and cloudless. I figured it would be a good candidate for some digital manipulating...

I wasn't satisfied with the birds, so after searching a little more, I found some brushes I like better...

Good thinking Amy and now the birds have more depth because of the perspective you have given them along with the shapes. Nicely done. Ahh, so it is a lake then. Well there you go.

All the best Amy, nice work once again and I really love this aged look you have achieved. :toast:

Amy,

This is a beautiful scene and I like the mood of it as well. I'd have to say your effects worked very well for you.

Great job. I like the repost with the larger birds better. The textures really make this special.

This is really nice Amy and very evocative. I like your soft touch with the color tones and added textures and elements. I get a sense that it's an antique painting. The second version with the birds in different positions has a more airy an natural feel to I think. Congratualtions of the editor's pick!

There's a seagull brush? This is amazing. Well done and well-deserving of a 2008 EPA. Congratulations.
