Sandstone Slither

This image was taken a few minutes after sunset. I had actually hoped to photograph the scene in the last rays of the day, but arriving a bit too late for that decided to take the picture anyway. The yellow part of the rock faces west and was catching some that after sunset glow from the western sky. I didn't care for the viewfinder image all that much but found that the soft light on the resulting slide was definitely to my liking.

Comments and criticism always appreciated.

Nikon FM2, zoom lens, 81A probably, Velvia 100F

Excellent. Great use of lines, and the colors aren't bad either. Very nice work as usual.

Excellent composition, lighting and camera work on a dynamic scene. You whacked a homerun here, for my tastes.

Tony, this is stunning. One of the best intimate landscapes I have seen, and I do mean that in the widest possible context. I want a print!

Very cool image, but I do find myself distracted a little by what looks like a footprint in the middle-maybe that could be cloned out?

Great light and colour captured here. I like the coloured line coming through the image and the way it's also on the foreground rock. I can see a few different images here. The soft light has made this for you.

It's pretty much all been said. You're a sandstone cowboy. My additional only comment is that I see your FM2 still thinks it's a 4x5.

Sometimes words are inadequate to describe an image and what it means to you. This is one of them.

Congrats and thanks for the inspiration.

Very pleasing image, I love the way the 3D space and the patterns of the 2D lines combine to form the image. Great soft colors too!

Oh wow..the color of the striated rock with pink and warm hues...so lovely! I love it! I like how you have the rock anchored in the lower right corner and the lines leading to the top.

I adore the rock formations of the Southwest, who could fail to be in awe of this incredible rock with its beautiful color and leading lines. I've tried it myself (with some snow) but I never really got a composition I liked. I can't really offer a comment on the lighting because my laptop screen is too small but compositionally I think it perfect.

Well done, Tony. You incorporated the path of the lines above to be nice extension of the feature rock.
