Waterfall and Granite, Evening

This image was made on Tuesday evening. I've been to this spot in the Sonora Pass country many times, and figured an evening shot would have the best luminosity without the harshness of daylight in the high country.

Tachihara 4x5
Nikor 90mm SW
No Filter
F-32 at 4 seconds
Astia 100-F

I did a small amount of dodge in the foreground and a slight crop from the right and bottom.

Your comments are appreciated, and thanks for looking.

Excellent light, sharpness, synergy, and composition. The water and rocks have a bit of green tint on my highly evolved and calibrated monitor.

Preston,

Very nice image! Love the detail that Astia 100F brings to the table and the color it offers is wonderful for this type of photo. I use it for most all of my winter shots.

I love the composition and interaction of the soft fuzzy water with the strongly textured granite.
I haven't been to that part of the Sierra in over 3 years. Yikes.

Hey Preston. You know what I like best about the comp of this image? The fact that I do not see the outlet to the pool; especially since there seems to be several inlets. To me this makes the photo more intriguing and interesting. I like it a lot. The detail in the rock is great too.

This has a superb balance to and a wonderful mixture of textures and lines. The granite has a very powerful presence - it feels like it is not yielding to the water at all. Well seen.

Thanks everyone for your comments. They are truly appreciated.

Doug, now that you mention it, I may adjust the color balance a bit. The water was quite green in reality, but the rocks less so.

Guy, all you have to do is give me a call, and we'll head up to this spot. Same for all of you: You're always welcome!

All the best,

See, PrashanTeju liked it so much, he posted twice! I like it enough to post a hundred times, but will try to control myself. This is fantastic, and I LOVE the additional spouts of water coming out on the right side of the falls. The detail and texture are supreme!

Very well done. Good choice of shutter speed, plenty of DOF, nice transitions in the tonality of the rocks, excellent comp.
