Weaver ants were feeding on a dead scorpion at Nagarhole national park in Karnataka, India.
Acting together in colonies, ants are among the most powerful forces of our world

Hi Kedar

This is one fine image of this ant on top of the world.

If you don't mind me asking what focal length was used to capture this wonderful image?

regards
Ari

Thanks Ari

I used a 105mm Macro Nikon lens on a Nikon D80 DSLR. Aperture was f14. Had i used f22 or more, i would have got more DOF.

A dramatic capture, and the technicals are spot on.

Fascinating capture, Kedar, with excellent composition and detail. (I think it'd be more dramatic, even, with the highlights on the ant muted a little.) Would these weaver ants have killed the scorpion? or could they?

Kedar, this is a really neat shot showing the texture of the scorpion tail and what looks like the ant pulling up after a bite of flesh. Very nice!

Hi rosemarie

i have no idea wether the ants killed the scorpion. because when i spotted it, it was already full of ants. But i believe the scorpion may injured in the first place and later the ants had a chance on it.

Thanks all for the feedback

Hey Kedar, congrats on your image of the week, Great shot.

As the new moderator of the Macro/Close-Up gallerie I'd like to say thanks for posting here. I notice that the M/CU gallerie has less comments per image than the other galleriies. It would be great if every one take the time and post comments on other images and bring up our comment count. Thanks and keep em coming.

WOW! This is great truly work. Fantastic recording of cruel behaviour of these ants in an artistic way. I do wish the second ant were entirely in or outside the frame, but that is minor. :toast:

Thanks everybody.

yes Vincent, agree the second ant complete in/out would have been better.

Thanks Mike, will keep posting many more images.

the picture attached shows the complete view of the ants' attack. The yellow petals on the ground in this image gave the out of focus yellow patch behind the sting which worked well for me
