collybia mushrooms
by Pete D
This is another really old photograph. I had a similar shot of the same subject scanned back in 1997, but the original slides were made in 1994. Any how, 105/2.8 macro, probably at f/16, no flash, but a little reflector was used to bounce light up from below the subject. I remember it well, the belly flop in the mud and all.

Thanks for looking and for commenting. I'm glad people are interested in this photograph. The comments show that some of the things I was trying to show did come through: First the beautiful curves and textures are what caught my eye. I framed this quite tight, I'm thinking maybe a little too tight now, in order to make that center, large cap fill a lot of the frame and direct attention toward the center (the old mesmerization technique - now take out your wallet...). Of course, the youngster in the foreground is a lucky find too. Finally, cleanliness IS next to Godliness. Actually, cleanliness is the result of these growing out of the end of a log about two feet off the ground.

Very impressive for colors and composition :)
As the new moderator of the Macro/Close-Up gallerie I'd like to say thanks for posting here. I notice that the M/CU gallerie has less comments per image than the other galleriies. It would be great if every one take the time and post comments on other images and bring up our comment count. Thanks and keep em coming.

The light is perfect for the subject, with your very wise use of the reflector. I like the way the forms fill the frame, and let your eye wander around to enjoy the textures as well as the shapes of the small mushrooms. Another amazing thing is how CLEAN this is. Seems like most of the mushrooms I see have a bunch of dirt on them. Just beautiful in every way.
well deserved!
