Light on Stage
by Rafael Rojas
Hello everybody. This is my first post on nature photographers, and i decided to start with a very special image for me. It comes directly from our last trip to Patagonia.
We spent 9 days around, more waiting for those special moments than anything else, and happily we could witness a couple of sunrises and sunsets that blew our senses. The main problem: the wind. Winds of 80-90 km/h are common everyday, and when having long expositions due to the low levels of light even the most sturdy tripod is not enough. We were blessed with a twisted bush that gave some shelter, and an umbrella laterally placed did the rest.
From the point of view of composition, it was great the fact that the two rainbows get out from the two islands in the foreground, and the fact that the islands themselves are in the shade. This gave depth to the composition. The combination of complementary colours (blue and reddish) gave more dynamism to the image, and the atmospherical conditions a very moody mountain scene.
I hope you will like this image, and it will transmit you a little of the emotion i could felt in those moments. Thanks all for your comments in advance! I will be very happy to share some moments with you on this forum in the future! :) Regards from Switzerland, Rafael.

25 commentsWelcome to NPN. Hope to see more of your lovely work and your participation in the forum. That is a very vivid rainbow and you captured it nicely.
Talk about some fantastic light.
Welcome!
That's the image of a lifetime!! You've already described what makes this so special.
Great description of how you captured it, too.
Wow, what an entrance to NPN! Welcome aboard to the ES&S Gallery, we're glad to have you join.
This is dramatic and beautiful. It may not be fair to make this comparison, but there's a very famous image that came to my mind - Galen Rowell's "Rainbow over the Potala Palace."
I can see why this might be a special image to you. You were there to experience this and came home with a winner. Congrats on a beautiful image.
