Shadows and Sand

Taken on the same morning as a previous image I posted a few weeks ago from Death Valley, when the winds were howling at 40+ mph. Canon 5DII, Contax 35-70mm lens w/ adapter. I choose a shutter speed of 1/15 sec. to make sure that some of the blowing sand streaked towards the lens during the exposure.

Beautiful, Ian. Great shapes, and the blue/gold color combo works very nicely.

Really fantastic S-curve winding through this. That coupled with the nice warm and cool tones makes for a fantastic image.

Gorgeous. I love the glow and the way you got the sand movement working for you. Great use of negative space, too.

Absolutely exquisite! Colors, mood, shapes, lines, texture, are all superb. This is approaching the quote on my signature..."If less is more, then nothing is everything." which of course is absurd, but this is the perfect example of how little is needed to be everything you need in a shot.

Wild! This is fantastic as is, but if you ask me, it would be absolutely mind blowing as a pano--the bottom half is the stronger part of the shot.

Incredible abstract image; your comp could not be better. Love the textures and light especially in the lower right and the blowing sand adds an entire new dimension. Phenomenal work.

Awesome light here in a great comp, 2 suggestions: the yellows are a little to much for me, and it seems you have something on you sensor, take a look at S curve at left!

thanks Pedro -- its just sheets of blowing sand in the background -- more apparent when examining the master file close than when looking at a small jpeg on the web

Ian,

An outstanding image both in it's graphic capture, but also in light and color. The softness along the shadow line is easily explained by the blowing sand, but what really catches my eye is that patch of detailed sand on the right just below the shadow. This is a gorgeously simple image.
