Namibia

Shot on Marsel's Namibia workshop, these are pink granite formations on a massive scale. The light from the almost full moon was amazingly bright.

Canon 1DsMkIII, 16-35mm 2.8L, f9, 32 minutes, ISO 100, single exposure, in-camera noise reduction.

Absolutely amazing. Like the exposure here. Some fantastic moon light it does seem - u've managed to get some light in the underside of the arch too. Just wondering if a cooler WB would give a night time mood instead of the current warmish feel.
Lovely image Kah.

Very nice job.

Your comp here is really great. I think I would prefer to darken the sky and the moonlight exposed rocks to give this more of a "night" look. To that end, I might experiment with cooling it a bit as well. That said, this is a wonderful shot.

Great shot Kah Kit. I agree that a cooler WB might make the shot less confusing in terms of lighting though, especially because of the light intensity and contrast. But it sure was incredibly bright out there.

I'm curious how your two hour exposure turned out. I don't have time to process mine, as I'm leaving for Finland again in two days - I'll post some of my results when I get back.

Thanks for the comments. I'll go for a cooler balance. Marsel, my 2 hour exposure looks very similar but with longer startrails. With the moon in a lower position I didn't like the large patches of shadows in the foreground which is why I prefer this version. I'll be very interested to see your startrail shot from this location as well as some of the other guys.

Holy Zebra..I thought this is in Utah. Great comp except the halos in this version. I am on the fence with the star trails - I wish that they were longer. But at the same time, they were small in the frame die to wide lens usage - I like it a lot

Wow, impressive Kah Kit! Looks like shot during the day with some heavy polarizing, but now learning that this was done at night makes it even more impressive!

Kah,

Excellent moonlit landscape. Sure, I could go for a cooler color balance, but I rather enjoy this as is. I think it was important in this case to keep detail beneath the arch as well. A finely executed image. I like this.

Wow! That's very creative. It's amazing how much light the moon provides. This is really good!
Do you know about the desert lions in Namibia? Did you see any?

Markus, this certainly is Spitzkoppe. Chris I didn't see any lions. This shot was more about the bright moonlit scene than startrails. Marsel will probably post his version timed after moonset which will feature startrails. Here is a version with a cooler balance, also darker.

I knew the startrails weren't the main part of the image, but a nice ingredient of the whole. But I do like the cooler version, and the fact that it does make the trails stand out more.
Dang, no lions.

I prefer the second one, it looks more "nightly", nice detail throughout; did you take any short exposures to leave the stars as points?
