Rainy Dawn

A small storm is slowly making its way through Southern Utah. I originally headed out to see the setting full moon but the motion of the clouds at dawn proved a more interesting subject.

In keeping with the gallery's theme, here's an excerpt from an essay I'm working on for an upcoming book:

"The mere knowledge that such places are out there, lonesome and remote and pristine, is sufficient medicine for any stress and drudgery induced of the human-made world. I have seen their healing powers at work. I can no longer imagine a life worth living without the ability to escape to a splendid desert oasis and have it to myself – to enjoy, to revel in, to mourn and cry and heal in, to be inspired and renewed by, and even to be scared out of my mind. I am saddened to think of people who go through life never realizing their inner wildness, shielded from experiencing the most primal, raw, and powerful sensations that make life itself."

Beautifully mastered Guy

Love your excerpt and thats totally true. Without these secluded places I think I would go crazy

Your comp is great and I enjoy the emphasis you put on the sky and storm clouds. The earth tones in the landscape add just the right amount of contrast to the sky. Well done

Very cool shot. I really like to color contrast you have in Utah. Blue blue skys with red rock really works. Was this a very long exposure? The streaking of the clouds looks like it.

What you find during photographic journeys is usually different from what you expected. And for that I, for one, am glad for the adventure and the surprise. Beautiful scenic with a lot of drama. You've placed the emphasis on the sky and I agree with your choice... I can almost feel the storm's coming.

beautiful image there Guy, love the opposing colors,, I can SO relate to your excerpt too!! except my oasis is the Ocean,, Ive always felt that way when Im on the front of the ocean in the early morning hours before the sun comes up and before thousands of people clutter the beachs here if Florida, your words explain my true feelings and the reason why photography is such a part of my life, very nicely done with both !!

I agree. I would go crazy if I couldn't get away outdoors. This is a great image with great color and cloud action.

Guy, after reading your excerpt and looking at this dramatic scene, I cannot help but think where would the world be without the nature photographer?

The motion or structure in those clouds is really something Guy. Like you, I was fortunate to realize my inner wildness from an early age, thanks to my parents. People who miss out on it seem to live an entirely different life... and I think they're missing out as well.

Your use of color continues to inspire me. As well as your prose.

Great image. Cold and warm colors when mixed like this are an instant attraction to the eye.
