Sunday NAD day, I found myself deep in the heart of Kansas returning from the opening of the Kansas Park Trust show: Visions of the Flint Hills, a show benefiting the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve. I was fortunate to have had two of my prairie grass images juried into this show. Never one to waste an opportunity to photograph I planned a weekend of work in the central part of the state as I returned from KC. My main plan was to photograph the full moon set at Cheyenne Bottoms wildlife area, but Sunday morning mother nature had other plans: total cloud cover and no moon or sunrise light! As I headed home the heavy cloud cover started to give way and provided some really nice diffuse soft light and the grasses along the road where just wonderful. As many of you know I have a special love for photographing grasses and so I pulled over. I was in heaven as I found several nice compositions with this image being one of several I will print and add to my portfolio. So from what turned out to be a bust at sunrise turned into an opportunity and fed my passion for making images of the natural world. It was a good day!

It seems like nature doth provide, just not always what we expected! Very nice layer of grass.

Congrats on the juried show. Your grassland photos are certainly deserving. Grasslands tend to be overlooked for their beauty, but you've got a knack for finding it and conveying it through your photos.

This is another wonderful image. I really like the differing textures and colors in this shot.

Beautiful lines and colors here Steve. For the web version it looks a hair over sharpened, the primary result of which is an emphasis on the edges, and reduced saturation (I think) - in any case, very nicely seen.
