Tie Dye in the Sky

I was out hiking tonight with a buddy since today was the only nice day in the past couple of weeks, and I had a hunch that there would be a good sunset tonight. I'm glad I went out tonight! It was amazing, the color was blinding! I did very little to this image, it came out of the camera like this pretty much; minor adjustments in contrast and thats about it! As I was taking this picture, my buddy said it looked like "Tie Dye in the Sky", so I had to go with that for the title!

Comments and critiques are appreciated!

Thanks,

Ben

whew..what a burning hot sky. Fanstatic capture and probably work better without the reed(just poke above the horizon) on the extreme right. :toast:

I'm viewing this on my laptop right now and some of the pink hues on the LH side of the frame in the cloud look weird, this was not the case on my other computer with a calibrated monitor.

Do the pinks look good on others monitors that are calibrated?

Love the color, what an amazing sunset. Did you get any abstract/intimate images of the reflection and those reeds?

Benjamin,

I did not, I was walking around in the water and I didn't want to risk changing lenses while walking around the lake!

Walking in the lake! How did you manage to keep the reflection so still!?

Benjamin,

I just stand as still as possible, but some ripples are unavoidable! The long exposure makes it so they aren't visible.

An incredible sunset Ben. The radiating clouds and their reflection create an amazing stellate pattern. Love the lines of those grasses as well. Really great color and comp.

Stunning sunset Benjamin. What works really welll here is how the reflection of the clouds provide the "lead in" lines and the dynamics. Maybe the image is a tad too dark on the bottom - the lines are not discernible anymore closer to the bottom -could enhance the comp. even more if there were a bit more separation and contrast.

"...I did very little to this image, it came out of the camera like this pretty much..." Just fell out of the camera, eh! Well, I think the composition of this shot is exemplary: the hub and spokes of color, the placement of the horizon to give a forceful symmetry, the low camera angle emphasizing the reflection of the sky and those reeds, like exclamation points aligned just so. I would clone out the reed in the lrc that protrudes above the horizon. Great

Great sunset capture, and good choice on composition. I really like the foreground reeds. I have quite a bit of difficulty finding anything similar when I venture out to wetland areas in my neck of the woods . . . mucky tangles appear to be the predominant vegetation.

A hunch? I just think your an experienced sky observer and divined from the sky the possibility of a killer sunset. Usually a result of many observations and then seeing the end result. Training your eyes and brain to recognize the sky signs that predict an evening for a great combination of clouds and light. Well done, Ben it pays to be observant and patient.

Great colors indeed, superb sunset, and good processing. Nice use of filters
For my taste, I would crop a bit in the bottom, guess it´s a bit dark considering the overall image, and it possibly would bring more interest on FG details.
