Little Stinker

I took this picture late June at 7:30am. I wanted to photograph some dragonflies with the heavy dew. On my walk out I was sidtracked photographing some daisies and found this little guy. I'm not for sure but I think it's a member of the stink bug species. It was early yet and the area was still shaded by the sun. I took several shots at different angles, with each one his tounge was a little farther out. I don't now if that was for my benefit or if he was just drinking up the dew.
Canon XT, 1/10 sec, F10, ISO 100, Canon 100mm Macro, no flash, tripod, RAW conversion, level adjust and sharpened.
C&C Welcomed, Thanks

Nice comp, John. That's a pretty wild looking bug --- do you have other shots showing more of the body?

Sam, I do have some with a higher point of view, showing more of the design on it's back. I'll try to add it a little later thanks.

John: Nice picture of this bug. Focus and DOF are just spot on.

Excellent head shot; those details are amazing, and I really like the tongue. I also like the diagonal comp. Great capture!

I have no idea what that is. I spent some time on Bugguide.net last night trying to id some personal shots and while I was at it, this one as well. I didn't see anything like it.

I am guessing that you guess of it being a stink bug might be heading in the right direction - try predatory stink bugs in particular. Was this shot in the United States?

:toast:

Thanks for posting.

Hi Dan, Thanks for trying to ID this bugger for me. Yes this is in the US, I took it in my woods in Mid Michigan. Thanks again.
