Subway Magic
by Sean Bagshaw
For those of you from the SW or who are just plain saturated with Utah icons, allow me to say that for a photographer from the NW it is a real thrill to get the chance to visit, explore and photograph in the desert. The land and the light are so different than I find in my home area. I have visited the SW three times in 10 years, but this last visit had the most amazing conditions, thanks in large part to David Cobb's good weather ju ju. My next several posts will be my versions of mostly well know locations I'm afraid. There is good reason why they get photographed so much. I hope that my renditions do them justice. Next time I go I'm bringing the 4X4 and a big backpack so I can go remote.
I have seen dozens on photos of the Subway, but the reality was even better. David and I were the last to leave the trail head under overcast skies. By the time we reached the narrows most of the early hikers were on their way back, the sky cleared, we had amazing reflected light and the place almost completely to ourselves.

Fantastic rendition from the Subway. You nailed this one. And for someone who has never been, I still never tire seeing images from here. Great job at holding detail in some of the shadow areas. My only nit would be wanting a little bit more room all the way around, but mostly at the bottom and sides. Not sure if this is full frame or not, but more likely this is the max composition. But it doesn't matter a whole heck of a lot because this is a wonderful capture.
