Found this maple on the grounds of a small country church in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. All comments/suggestions much appreciated.

Excellent comp! I also really like the color and the amount of leaves on the ground balancing the leaves still on the tree. The dark trunk really gives nice structure to the shot.

What a beautiful tree and capture Philip. I love the spacing of the leaves from above and below.

This capture has a very arty feel to it. A painterly quality blended with a photographic capture. The trunk has very good detail - the photographic capture part. And the foremost leaves left side have a soft painterly quality. Intriguing presentation. Nice capture. Looks like it was captured on an overcast day which adds to the dept of color. :toast:

Excellent comp. Looks like you also caught a leaf falling (in front of the trunk). Nice color.

I agree with all the positive comments - great shot. The only very small nit (and I do mean small ) would be if you can do something with the small bit of sky showing through on the right side that doesn't fit with the "painterly" effect that Steve mentioned. :toast:

Philip: Perfect proportion of leaves on the ground to leaves on the tree IMO. Good photography. >=))>

This image would be a lot stronger without the mowed grass in the background. I try to avoid manicured lawn in all of my photography - be it landscape, avian, or fauna because it just screams humans.

Always a winner when showing the trunk with leaves around it. While the mowed lawn takes away a bit of the fallish effect, I son't think it's major and I like this, Philip.

A wonderfully stately old Maple captured to perfection. Nice one, Philip! I want to run into all those leaves at the base of the tree-- they're there just begging to be scuffled!
