Full rut on the Madison, Yellowstone. This big boy had cows all around and was challenging all comers.

The elk is very sharp and nicely framed, but the FG and the whitish part of his body look slightly overexposed. This should be correctable in PS. Also, having the copyright under the elk's head is distracting. It would be better placed in the lower left or right corner.

Hello Jack,
IMO this is a great shot in the making. As I tip my laptop screen to view it from a lower angle and the image gradually becomes darker, it really comes to life. This technique with my laptop isn't very accurate, but it does give a quick density boost to view. As the density increases, the textures in the antlers, coat and grasses become more apparent.
I'd love to see this again with some tweaking!
Nice shot!

The yellow of the grass still looks a bit overexposed to my eyes, great shot though!

Good body pose of the buck Jack. The repost looks a lot better, but I agree with Guy that some areas could be even a little darker. Further I wish there was a bit more BG separation, which could have improved a bit by opening up.

Hi Jack,
Great pose and good timing on your part. I think the bull is optimally positioned within the frame in this shot. I was going to make the exact same suggestion as Neil and then I read on further - so at this point simply ditto me for what Vincent said!
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Ditto to Vincent and others... The repost is much better. The background competition of deadfall right behind the head and antlers is a bit unfortunate. The pose is classic and perfect.

Third time is the charm. This repost is darker in the grass area and darker in the trees. Hopefully, that makes the antlers stand out more.
Thanks for all the help.

I agree, I like the third posting the best. Overall I like to body position and low perspective.
