During the winter of 2007-2008 here in Ottawa we had nearly a record amount of snowfall. Given the depth of the snow cover, and how long it ws on the ground, it was a tough winter for a lot of wildlife and it shows on this whitetail.

Great shot, really sharp - looks like she's giving you a warning stomp.

Great low angle David and gorgeous light which makes the fur coat stand out well. Interesting pose with that raised hoof and eye contact. If anything, I would maybe to to darken the BG just a bit.

Hi David,

Very simple yet very visually pleasing. Colour is very nice and the deer looks very sharp (and, as you suggested, very thin). I'm in agreement with Vincent's suggestion of trying to selectively darken the background a little (but not by too much) and, if the image were mine, I would be tempted to shave off a portion of the out-of-focus foreground in this image (thus lowering the deer a little in the frame). Personally, I would probably remove MOST of that out-of-focus foreground, but this is definitely an issue of personal preference.

Cheers...and it's always nice to see another Canuck contributing to the Fauna Gallery!

Good exposure and excellent detail. If you have the space, I would remove some of the oof foreground and add proportional space over the deer. I like the reflective eyes, the white spot on the face and the raised foreleg.
