Tongariro NP, NZ

I recently spent 2 weeks on the North Island of New Zealand, my second visit to one of my favourite countries. On the first visit we shot past Tongariro National Park, so this time I made sure we spent a couple of days there.
The Volcanic center of the island is usually shrouded in clouds, and this particular morning was no different. We were on a 6km hike when we reached this stream half way around; I liked the colours of the hillside, the flow to the stream, and how the clouds just descended on Mt Ruapehu in the distance to add a moody feel.
Canon 5Dmkii, Canon 24-105L, tripod.

Nicely captured Nick - very strong comp. I wish the foggy BG was included more, but I know you can only do so much!

Hi Bill, the original does have a little more at the top, I just cropped it down thinking the clouds wouldn't add a whole lot - maybe I was wrong :).

Wonderful clarity Nick. Feels like I can walk right into the scene. I like the comp as well. The stream brings me right to the mountains. Beautiful image.

This comp is great, and the earth tones in the foliage are beautiful. The eye moves very nicely through this image, and it is a joy to view.

Sweet photography

Nice job here Nick. I like the lines leading the viewer back into the image. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more at the top of the image as well, but it is a minor issue.

Very good photograph. Some selective light in a scene always makes a photograph interesting. I also like the water and the rocks in the fg. It all comes together for a coherent composition.

Nick,

This is a beautiful and nicely composed landscape. I really like the combination of light on the landscape and the presence of clouds at the top. Tells me that the lighting was quickly and constantly changing and you did well to capture this one.

I really like the water in and above the cascade, but personally wish for a little longer ss at the bottom to have the water fan out more with a little motion too. But that's very nitpicky. This is still a beautifully captured scene.

Nice work Nick! Wonderful composition and your processing looks good. I too wish for slightly more sky in this photo and Lon makes a great point about the water, but either way this is definitely a winner. Thanks for sharing. Michael

Thanks Lon and Michael for the comments/suggestions. My aperture was at f/16, and I had a polarizer on, I guess the foreground water wasn't moving really quickly, to veil it would of needed a ND which I didn't have.

Really good comp, Nick. I also like the transition from cool to warm in colors. Good shutter speed choice on the water.

This angle of view and comp give a very natural feeling of perspective. Straight forward and effective in giving a sense of place.
