Fern Forest

Living in the New Mexico desert for 20+ years one tends to forget what green looks like! Luckily, its only a short (3-day) drive to the Quinault rainforest where nearly everything is green! It was truly magical to be surrounded by 3' tall ferns in this forest along the Quinault river. Hope you like it!

C&C always welcome!

Phillip,

I like this very much exactly as posted but would also think it would work with the forest cropped out at the top. Love the ferns, the comp and the rich color.

Wonderful ferns! I'm fortunate to be around them all of the time, but it is always great to see such wonderful specimens.. especially in a setting like this! Reminds me of my recent time spent in Northern CA. :toast:

Wow, that's a dazzling fern forest. What prime subjects they are, too. Maybe it's me, but I feel like the trees are falling forward. I'd favor a crop down to the ferns for that reason. And there's even shamrocks (oxalis) in view under the ferns! Splendid!

These ferns are bueatiful Phillip. I like your choice of composition with placing the horizon high. It draws great attention on the ferns and show the DOF nicely.

Love the radial lines of your foreground here Philip, you picked the right fern and your emphasis on the ground patterns was a good choice.

That is a gorgeous area with no shortage of green. I like your composition as is and especially the way the fronds leads your eye into the photo :toast:

Wow! This is cool, Philip! I've always visualized a shot similar to this, but I can never seem to pull it off as well as what I have in mind. You did an excellent job here! :toast: :jump:

If a 3-day drive was short, I'd be in Colorado, New Mexico and the rest of the west all the time!

Phillip, in the thumbnail I wsn't sure what the bg was, but seeing it here I think it adds to the capture by giving your subject a home. What a lush green capture. Seems almost surreal. I like the presentation of looking down into the foreground fern and then wandering up into the image. :toast: I believe those are shamrocks in the center of the foremost fern as well as surrounding it. Sweet!

Beautiful green color. Very nice light in the front section and well mastered compo. Good catch after such a long drive. :toast:

I think you've got two excellent shots in one here, Phillip. Great comp with the foreground fern leading the eye to the BG trees and also looks good cropped down to the main subject. Well done. :toast:
