Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos)

Place: Gilbert, AZ, USA
Date: November 9, 2009
Equipment: Nikon D200, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (2x), G1325, RRS BH-55, sidekick
ISO 400, aperture priority spot meter, 1/250th second @ f/9, -1/3rd ev compensation
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac G4, slight crop for proportion

Here's a companion composition to my previous post for those who wanted more space on the right side. An early morning shot. I was attracted by the spotlight effect and the setting.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated.

Nice bird, nice light, great shot Richard, I know these birds well here in the northeast. They seem to be so friendly. I didn't see your last post but this one is great!

Another superb presentation of this mockingbird Rich - the light and setting in both images is wonderful. IMO, your comp couldn't be better in either one.

Very nice, Rich. Both images are great. However, I prefer the first one: it has more bird and less vegetation. Also, the little head tilt is more appealing in the first one. This bird sure was cooperative to stand there on one leg presenting you with different poses! :toast:

I can only dream of light like that! Overcast with 40 to 50mph gusts is what I have had for the last week! Excellent photo, and I really like the one legged stance!

I like how the branches frame the bird along with the detail and the one legged pose. This all adds up to a wonderful shot, well done.
