Reflections

This photograph was taken in the harsh time of the day. I have never worked with black and white, until know and checking out the other galleries I do not see were there are many postings either. I like the way this one turned out. When I printed it, the reflection looks like a painting. I was wondering what your thoughts might be? If I have posted this in the wrong gallery, please let me know. The only manipulations I have performed on the photo was to crop it by 20% and I changed it to black & white. The color photo with the harsh lighting just did not appeal to me. I have included a larger view also. All C & C's appreciated. Thank you all for taking the time to view my photography!

Canon 50d, Hand Held, shutter speed 1/500sec, focal length 200mm, F/7.1, ISO 400, metering mode Pattern, exposure Normal, exposure compensation 0.67

Carlette, this has a beautiful fan like appearance. I love the pose you captured and the reflection and the conversion to BW. The only thing I'd suggest is that you might tone down the hotspots and those four vertical lines above the egret.

Carlette, I like this in B & W and love the reflection. As Wayne mentioned I would try to tone down the hot spots.

I like how the wings are spread and the curve of the egret's neck.

Carlette,

I like your conversion a lot. The hot spots don't bother me but I'm probably in the minority on that - to me it's the way we frequently see the birds. My only nit in this is the shadow across the extended wing. I still like the image very much but think it would be stronger without the shadow. Nothing you could do about that of course. (smile)

I agree with the others Carlette. I would work on the contrast and brightness a bit in this one to see if you can tone down the bit of harshness I feel when viewing this as posted. Overall, a very nice comp.

I love the birds pose and that glorious reflection. Definitely worth doing some more work on.

Carlette, you have an excellent pose with the wingspread, and the reflection is a bonus. I agree that the harsh light makes it tricky, sometimes lighting just doesn't work in our favor, so maybe it would be a good thing to work on bringing out some of the midtones.

I love the pose here. I think if you can tone down the highlights, without further darkening the shadows this would be great. I actually like the dark shadows as they are...
