Morning Buffalo

Been away on my Bosque tour and super busy since I came back.....hopefully things calm down a bit!
This was taken near the barns in the Tetons as the morning light cleared the mountains. The grasses just glowed and I was able to get a few frames off of this lone buffalo......with 100's surrounding him.
Canon 1D Mark III with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 536mm for 1/640 sec at f7.1 and ISO 800.

Love the light and comp. Very clean image and great detail in the bison.

Perfect light for showing off the color and detail in the Bison. The tall grass is such an appropriate setting. Very nice image quality but I wonder why you went with 800 iso, something a bit lower should still have given you enough shutter speed for this stationary bison.

Great capture of the intensity of that gaze. You've made the bison look heroic and enduring.

The colors are pleasingly warm and rich.

Very nice. The light is great and the composition is well balanced. Contrast on the buffalo could be a bit higher though, the head/neck area looks like you did some shadow recovery there or digital fill light - boosting the blacks there will make this stronger imho.

It's nice to see this one and Lon's version next to each other - quite a difference in temperature.

Hi Roman,

A very nice "classic" shot of a bison. I like the light, the warm colours and the simplicity of the image. Detail on the horn is particularly noticeable and nice. While I agree with Gary regarding the ISO (i.e., thinking you could have gone lower), at least at this size (and the 1200 pixel size), no harm seems to have been done to the image by the ISO (i.e., no obvious noise). If I had to find a nit, I'm thinking that positioning the bison even slightly more to the right in the frame (but not by much at all) could slightly strengthen the image. But, of course, this is a matter of personal preference and the image is strong as presented.

Cheers...thanks for sharing...

Brad

Hi Roman, this is very nice. You get an A for detail on the bison, an A+ for the gorgeous light (and being there at the right time) and an A for sticking to the 'isolate and simplify' rule. Very good image.

Some Nikon folks out there really think that the Nikon D3 is the only high iso camera in the world... Let me remind them that the Canon 1d3 is not far off (and that with a higher pixel density!). Personally I cannot wait to get hold off the 1d4...

PS I am not normally rating images this way, just pulling your leg.
