Nightfall

People probably thought I was a nut for being the only person walking up the trail through an open mountain pass at 8:00pm in the middle of a thunder/hail storm with a metal tripod strapped to my back. However, once the storm passed, I had Logan Pass to myself, and was rewarded with a short but wonderful sunset. After the sun had completely left, I made my way to this spot. As I had hiked nearly 50 kilometers that day, standing in the knee-deep water to get this shot was actually somewhat pleasant.

As always, any C&C are appreciated.

FIFTY kilometers? Wow, that's a trooper.
Very interesting view I like the textures and colours in the rocks. I might brighten them just a bit, but other than that, nicely done.

Love the shine on the water up top, brightening the rocks a bit should help the overall image.

Wow! This is really stunning! I love the moody darkness and I'd love to see it printed in a dim lit room for the full effect.

Stunningly beautiful place. Contrast seems a bit strong, but it creates a very dramatic mood for this place. Have no idea where this is, but it's really nice.

Very mysterious image. I think most guys shoot this from the top so its nice to see something different. Maybe its the water that keeps them out. Very nice.

Pretty wicked day. Shot is pretty awesome. Think a bit more post...maybe double processing and blending back detail to the top of the waterfall/dark areas. But overall dig the mood and great stuff

pretty walls here. Seems an incredible spot to be.I like the light, and the overall "darkness" of the rocks/textures.

Wow, love the drama. I'm tired just thinking of how far you went. Is this looking up from twin falls or whatever that Galen has the sweet shot of? I like it dark like this, just enough detail all around for me. :toast:

This is Triple Falls (or Double Falls as Galen called them) from below. I've also got shots from above, which I'll probably post later.

I was aiming to keep this quite dark, and I don't think that I'd be able to brighten it up much further than I already have. It definitely looks better at full size with the proper atmospheric lighting.

No red bull, just a summer with tons of hiking that built up my stamina.

Thanks for the comments.

I can definitely say I'm enjoying the perspective change rather than the same old Galen shot Kenn. I'm sure from the top it will be nice but fresh is stimulating in a different way. Any grizzlies on the way up?

As I look at this, I've also got a Marc Adamus calendar on my wall with "Inside the Ice Canyon" as the shot for the month of December. I've got to think the location of his shot is the same, although he doesn't identify the location aside from mentioning it can be reached by a 9-mile hike near Logan Pass. You should check out his take on this location if you're not already familiar with it.

Anyway, back to your post. I like the composition and the lighting, though the contrast is a bit much along the walls for my tastes. And I also like the inclusion of the distant cliffs in the frame. If it were mine, I'd be tempted to crop a bit off of each side . . . and actually, a vertical shot might be pretty appealing as well if you happened to take any of those. But I also like the context provided by the horizontal framing.

Excellent and refreshing capture, Kenn. I like your processing it adds a mystery to this place.

Walking around Logan Pass in a thunder storm with a metal tripod + walking around Logan Pass in the dark in grizzly country + walking around Logan Pass after 50 km = a little crazy. However, this is a great shot of the falls. It's nice to see a different perspective.

This is pretty cool. What a unique spot. I haven't come across this area yet. I like the dark processing.

No bears up there, just a big horn sheep. I did stir up a group of 3 black bears earlier in the day, though.

I did take a couple of vertical shots after this one, but they're considerably darker, bluer and have more contrast. This was originally my least favourite comp, but it's grown on me and definitely has the most natural appearance.
