I was out this morning after overnight snow, looking for wildlife.

I visited a spot were I often see roe deer and after a two hour wait, one turned up right on cue.

Nice sharpness and the raised leg is a good addition. I just wish it were facing you.

Nice action and detail. I'd crop out the OOF band on the bottom. Too bad the subject isn't running toward you.

It all begins with the light Ron and you have the warm morning kind working in your favor. It looks like some light is also reflecting up onto the underside of the deer from the snow, nice effect. The head area outline is a bit hard-edged, perhaps rethinking the sharpening in that area would be worth considering.

Gary, Ed, Luke,
I appreciate the comments, I am never sure about the animal facing you, as it is an indication that you have been spotted, Is there a rule for this?????

I have posted another in the same series with the deer facing, this is closer crop

many thanks all

Hi Ron,

Very nice light and good timing - the raised front hooves and bent rear legs all say "action". You asked if there was a "rule" regarding having an animal face you: none as far as I know. But most viewers tend to like some form of eye contact, which is difficult to impossible with the head turned away. Eye contact certainly doesn't mean that the animal has to be looking directly at you or interacting with you (altho' at times this can work well too) - it can just mean that the eye is clearly visible and, if possible, has a catch-light or "glint" to it.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this image.

Brad

PS: I prefer the more dynamic nature of the initial post over that of the re-post.
