Mule Deer Doe

Just a Mule Deer doe (Odocoileus hemionus) but I liked the pose. Was out for a walk near downtown Salida Colorado when I happened upon this doe that was sitting with about 4 others beside the Salida Trail near the hospital. She allowed me to get really close without showing any signs of distress. Cropped a bit close on the top which I corrected in the next shot but this one has the tongue so I liked it better than later ones. Not quite tack sharp but not bad for a handheld shot wide open with an 80-400.

Nikon D200, Nikkor 80-400 VR, ISO 200, f5.6, 1/400, 400mm, handheld.

Haven't seen any elk or more exotic animals yet but I'm here for a week so there's hope yet.

Cute image. Like your own critique said a bit tight. However a nice image.

Good photo, crop is OK with me, like the tongue being out, sets this photo off from just a shot of a deer resting.

As you mentioned a bit tight. Like the subtle colors with that spark of pink tongue. It's pretty sharp to my eye but the rump looks just a bit sharper than the face.

I like her pose and the light. I agree that more space around would be desirable.

Hi Clinton,

I'd say your self-critique is spot-on here and I'm in agreement that the pink tongue adds to the image.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...
