Osprey Morning Catch

This was taken in Ft Myers Fla. Even though I have photographed many different birds, Osprey's are one of my favorites because of thier fishing abilities! I was fortunate to get the entire sequence of the catch until the Osprey flew off overhead right in front of me!
Canon 1D Mark III with the Sigma 300-800mm @ 800mm at f8 and 1/3200 sec and ISO 800 all tripod mounted w/ wimberly head. Slight crop bottom and behind and a sliver off top.

The position of the wings is spectacular making this a very dynamic image.
Great catch.

Great wing position, and eye contact. Also great background. I'd like a bit more space on the right side. :toast:

I love to shoot these birds too but don't have anything this good.Great wing position, really sharp eye and good detail in the prey really make this.

A superb flight shot, Roman. I really love the composition in this image. I am seeing a halo around most of the bird-probably from sharpening. :toast: :toast:

Love the flight posture, eye and of course the fish Roman. I agree about the halo and if this were mine I wouldn't have taken that "sliver off top" as the bird seems slightly cramped there to me. I'm fine with the room on the right. Did you use NR - to my eye there seems to be a lack of detail in the darks of the bird's left wing?

Very dramatic position, but I agree about the cramped frame and about the image quality issues (halo and loss of feather detail).

Roman,

I really love the pose you captured here, the fish in the talon, the direct gaze of the Osprey and the lovely contrast of the warm tones of the bird and the cool tones of the water.

I think I would have left a little more of the image above the osprey, but that is merely my own personal tastes showing through. The lack of detail in some of the feathers though would be my first concern, this species has such beautiful details in the feathers and I think it would strengthen this image of more of the details showed.

This image has loads of potential and with some more work it could shine even brighter than it does now.

I can see the halo that has been mentioned and that should be relatively easy to fix.

Roman,

This is an outstanding shot. I'd be happy with an decent shot of an Osprey catching a fish but to get one like this would be wonderful. Not only is the Osprey's eye nice and clear but you can see the eye of the hapless Ladyfish as well. Well done!

The dark sky works well with the whites on the bird and fish, would be a real problem with a white sky. Needs a bit more room at the top and right side as already mentioned.

Very nice. Love the one foot hold on the fish. I am on my own with this one but think your comp is just right. Generally I might want more room but I love how the shape of this bird fills the frame.

Love the wing positions, and the look of this Ospreys face. I like the darker background with a hint of clouds too, sets the bird apart nicely. Nits noted, nice capture Roman.
