Bison Close-up

This image was taken in Yellowstone National Park over the summer. My goal was to capture a unique image of a bison. I liked the texture of the fur in this image. This shot was taken from the vehicle as one of the many herds crossed the road to create a bison-jam. Any comments or suggestions are apprecitated.

Mike, I really like close-ups like this. It exposes so many details in the fur, eye and horn of this bison that you never get to see when the entire animal is shown. I find the worn horn is particularly interesting, but it does bother me that the tip is not in the photo. Have you tried any compositions that include the tip of the horn?

Hi Mike,

I also tend to like close-up wildlife shots that show the beauty and detail of their coats. I like this shot, but think two things may have made it stronger. The first is what Carol suggested - including the entire horn. Secondly, I think if the entire image was shifted to the right a little (so horn and eye moved to the left), then the natural diagonal formed by the eye and horn would be more prominent. And, of course, if the the bison had cooperated a LITTLE more and given you a bit more of the eye to work with it would have been helpful. But, as posted, this is an interesting image...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Really like the texture of the hair. Like how you can see the eye as well.
