Bighorn Sheep

Found these bighorn sheep in Chalk Creek Colorado after a hike. Light was a bit of an issue as the sun was already behind the mountains. Still, they were perfectly content to let me get quite close and I got some shots I rather like. This was about the last one. Several of the ewes had wandered off towards the forest behind this meadow. The ram was just realizing this as I took this picture. He and the rest of the ewes took off running after the others about 2 seconds later. I had zoomed back out, realizing this might happen. I had been trying (and failing) to get tighter shots and so had stopped down slightly to f6.3 to maximize sharpness and had a shutter speed of 1/350 for the longer shot, neither of which was probably necessary for this shot at 180mm but the noise isn't too objectionable and it's probably sharper for being slightly stopped down. Definitely didn't have time to change the ISO and aperture before they took off running.

Nikon D200, 80-400 VR, Handheld, ISO 400, f6.3, 1/350th, 180mm

Nice group. I think you could add some brightness with a curves adjustment for more pizazz. A lower camera angle have been preferable, IMO, but not so much as to put the heads/horns dark tree background. I like the alert attitude of the ram.
