Bubbles and Cracks
by Wayne Simpson
Here is another shot from my recent trip to Abraham Lake. I really liked the contrast of organic and geometric shapes here. I literally spent the entire day here shooting ice! It was a still day in an otherwise extremely windy place and I had the time of my life just wandering around on the ice. The sun was periodically hidden by clouds which was great for a variety of lighting conditions. I simply waited a few seconds for the sun to be hidden before doing this shot. The ice is so beautiful that I found myself almost forgetting about the grande mountain view that surrounds it! Thanks for looking.

Nice find!

This is awesome! Even though we've seen these frozen bubbles before, this is still a fantastic capture. What makes this one quite interesting and even dynamic is the hard lines of the cracks in the ice, and how those cracks alter the opacity and contrast in the ice. Cool stuff!

Wonderful capture btw.
This shot was taken shortly after sunrise but the sun kept coming and going. If I remember right, I think I was in the mountain's shadow at this point. It was a great day for these types of shots because the sun kept poking in and out all day giving me lots of lighting options... just had to wait a couple of seconds for a cloud to pass if I wanted to use the sun. Thanks for your comment!
