Loggerhead Shrike

Normally I have found this species hard to approach closely. They do tend to sit up on exposed perches. This is about full frame so you can see I did get close this time. He must be a messy eater since he has stuff all over his face. When I examined shots of his other side I found it to be messed up too.

I cloned out a small oof twig under his tail.

Thanks for looking and thanks for your comments.

Wow Hans, this is a real beauty! I have seen them here but far away and like you say, they are very hard to approach. I would really like to have one as good as this! :toast:

Delightful! Everything works well here - great pose, detail, perch, eye, and clean BG.
Cheers!

Just about perfect Hans! I did get quite close to one in the Californian Desert last April, but they are quite skittish.

Super shot Hans. I agree with all the positive comments on this one. I would love to see a larger version to take in all the details.

I agree, this is very good Hans - esp considering the species. I spent countless hours on Antelope Island this summer attempting a similar shot. Something always went wrong - sometimes the light, but usually the bird just wouldn't let me get close. This one must trust you...

Hans, I completely agree with you about getting close to these guys. Nice job on a crisp subject coupled with the fact that you handhelf your rig. Was this in IL?
