Racquette River View

Another snowshoe trip on the Stone Valley Trails, this one the NE sections. The river along this portion is flat and the trail is on a bank with trees between it and the water. I thought the line of open water seen through the young saplings was a nice abstract composition.

Nice framing with the branches, the diagonal creek is placed well.

Hey I like this one a lot. I would be happy with the branches and the snow alone, but the water and that hint of a warm color is adding a lot on top. Very good work!

Great eye Jim. Now you didn't mention any specs, but my only suggestion would be to have shot this with a wider aperture to try and throw the background more OOF. Yes, you mentioned about being able to see the open line of the water, but to me, the image is about the abstract and graphic nature of the lines of the saplings and less detail in the background would keep the attention up front. But you've still captured a different and graphic view that I think works very well.

This is really nice Jim. I like the lines of the branches and how they interact with the shapes and tones of the stream. I might consider cropping some of the bottom portion of the image to more of a pano format to further emphasize this interaction, and eliminate the tracks in the snow which seem to distract from the graphic appeal of the image as a whole. Just a thought of course. Nicely done.

A pan format? The grey in the snow along the bottom is not tracks, it is where the river edge meets the river bank. It didn't really bother me. At Vance's suggestion I tried cropping it (copy above) but the most I could go was a 7.5 to 12 aspect. Going any further I lost the "V" crotches in the saplings which I felt were important to tie them together. I suppose alternatively I could clone out the grey bits.
