Mt. Goat, Mt. Evans

Canon XTi, Tamaron 28-300mm lens
!/400 @ f-11 ISO 200, at 249mm. +3 exposure

I had not been on Mt. Evans for nearly 20 years. My goal was to find and photograph mt. goats. I was near the summit around 6:30 am and was treated to a band of mt. goats who unlike those I had seen years before, very adjusted to people. I was the only one there at the time, although others came while I was there. It was a great time and the goats were very cooperative.

Nice details and a very cute expression. Nice light to show off the fur. I love the piece of grass stuck on the horn. I am hoping to go to Mt Evans this summer. What time of the year was this shot taken? How hard is it to get to where these goats are? Thanks.

John,
Awesome portrait! I love the intimate comp, and the catchlight is great! You must have been pretty close to them to get this close of a portrait at less than 300 mm! The exposure is also spot on! Great shot!

Always great to have co-operative subjects  This is a very solid portrait John. You handled the exposure on the whites extremely well despite your +3 compensation. That you needed to dial in this much surprises me a bit. I might consider brightening the eye, but just a tiny bit.

This is a great portrait! The exposure looks perfect, and you chose the right DOF to blur the BG just right. Really nice work. Every time we drive past the Mt. Evans turnoff on I-70, I wish we could take a detour and check out the goats but we're always in too much of a rush. Maybe someday!
