Duck Weed and Cypress

An older image from two years ago when Ronnie Gaubert and I met at Lake Martin in early February. The late winter can be a little drab, but I thought the duck weed added a bit to this.

Bill, very nice photo. I like the mood it sets. Where is Lake Martin?

There's got to be a gator in there somewhere. It actually is a very calming image. I echo John, where is Lake Martin?

Nicely organized trees in this image. The green color does add a nice contrast. Nice comp.

Love the horizontal lines of shadow in contrast with the vertical reach of the trees. Really nice one, Bill.

Very nice Bill. I like the warm side lightning a lot. The the way you framed the trees is very well done as well - good choice of focal length!

Thanks for the comments. This particular Lake Martin is in south Louisiana near Lafayette south of I-10 on the western edge of the Atchafalaya Basin. Also known as Cypress Island preserve, a large portion of it is owned by the Nature Conservancy, which contains one of the largest rookeries for wading birds in the US. During nesting season the rookery hosts large numbers of great egret, little blue heron, roseate spoonbill, black crowned night heron, anhinga, white ibis and cattle egret. Also there are healthy populations of barred owls, red tail hawks, common moorhens as well as significant numbers of ducks. And yes, there ARE lots of alligators. It's a fun place to go if you're in the area, just south Breaux Bridge on LA31.

Looks like some really nice light you had. Well captured and the structure in the comp is excellent.

This is anything except drab, Bill. I really like the graphic look of the lower half with the sort of triangular line-up of trees and the horizontal shadows.

Very well done Bill. I'd like to see this beauty in B & W. Do you have a B & W version?

My wife and I worked in Louisiana in 2007. Some of the nicest people we ever met were in Louisiana. They also have some of the best consumer coffee on the market [i.e. Community Coffee].

Steve, and for others interested, here's a B&W conversion with a bit of contrast added. Thanks again for the comments.
