I find getting a good DOF and keeping the background clean a challenge in this picture. To give this a reasonable DOF, I had to resort to focus stacking of 2 images. The back is still blur and maybe I should have taken 3 images instead.

D90 Nikkor105mm iso200 F3.2 1/160 sec tripod overcast sky. Thanks for looking and C&C appreciated.

gary, I think you nailed the DOF...at least for my tastes. My only nit, is I might clone out the out of focus stem in the LLC and the out of focus stem in the ULC. Just think it would turn this from very good into absolutely jawdropping good! Your colors and detail are terrific!

Love it, I would like to see this without the lower left light area, but it sure is nice! :toast: :toast: :toast:

Gary,
We have dozens of these in our yard. Over the years I've been unsuccessfully trying to get a shot that comes close to what you just created. The lighting in your shot is just right as is the flower form. I would second Kurt's advice re: the cloning.
Thanks for inspiring me to try harder.

Gary,

I guess that extra shot would have gotten the very back sepal sharp but this is really nicely done regardless of that. Beautiful color and very fine detail. Also a perfect supporting bg with the exception of the lower left corner and I might clone that over. Just excellent though otherwise.
