Water, On the Rocks
by Bill Maile
Yesterday in NE PA, we had quite a downpour and temps near 60 meaning a lot of water from the snow melt and precip. Took a ride today to try and find some little waterfalls that popped up as a result. This is the bottom of one small fall I saw as I was leaving, I liked the colors of the stone and rocks and how they contrasted. Shot it at ISO-80, 1/13th second handheld at f-7.1. Nothing groundbreaking, just wanted to post it, thanks for looking and any C&C welcomed. Larger posted too.

Excellent, little intimate capture. I think this is nicely composed and you've somehow managed to use a shutter speed that softened the water a bit and yet you are still able to maintain quite a bit of detail - handheld no less. Good job. You didn't mention it, but my only suggestion would be to carry a polarizer with you and experiment with that. I think the reducing some of the sheen on the rocks could have enriched the colors a bit - but that's of course optional and a personal choice.
I think this is one of your recent best. NIce work.

As for the shutter, I was pretty surprised when I looked at the image data that it was 1/13th. This was taken as I was leaving the main area I was shooting for the day. I shot this little vignette at the bottom of a new "fall" at multiple speeds (1/13th to 1/50th) with about 8-10 different comps showing varying details. Know I used bridge walls as a brace during the day to shoot the swollen creek below (running too murky so I didn't mount to the tripod I was carrying). I do not remember using my car door frame as a brace for this after 100+ shots--but if i did it would have been for my elbows/forearms. Anyway, just thought that was worth noting.
Thanks again and I apologize for the ramble!!
