wow, that's some scene. if one could have picked the bird and moved it, say, to the space to the left, the composition would be wonderful. as it is it remains an interesting, action-filled shot.

Nice stop action, Kathryn. The bird gives a great sense of scale, however I feel like it is just a little too close to the edge of the frame. You could try adding a strip of blue matching the sky though and that would balance it out better.

Awesome capture of the wave! I love fast exposures like this, shows great power and detail. The bird would have worked great--if this were a vertical of the right side and if there was more space at top; but in this comp it feels uncomfortable, draws all your attention to that one spot when all the great action is below.

Nice capture, Kathryn. I'll ditto what Stuart Williams said about the comp.

Way to go.

This would be cool without the bird but with it, it's even neater. Looks like some rough seas you witnessed, Kathryn. Gorgeous! I do agree with Stuart about the bird but I think you did a great job with what you were given.

Thanks for the feedback. Those birds just will not go where you want them to. They just have a mind of their own. So, just for the heck of it and with the magic of Photoshop, here is an example with the bird in a better place. Probably need to lighten it up a bit still.

A very nice moment you captured here with good form in the waves and backlighting.

very nice shot, I have been there many times. You caught the essence of the point at Cape Hatteras. I like that you moved the bird.

This captures the rough waves really well, Kathryn. Quite a sight and your tightly composed scene distills the action nicely.

The moved version is perfect! Youll just have to bring a trained gull next time

Really like the stop action on wild sea, but could do without the bird
