Mummy Range Sunrise

After leading clients for a few days I realized I hardly took a shot so I headed out for sunrise. It was pretty windy so the trees were tough to get sharp. It was ok, not many clouds in the right spot but got some good rich color. Had to desaturate the reds a bit to make it look natural.

D300, 24-85 @ 28mm, .8 secs then 5 shot bracket, ISO 200, HDR photomatix, LR3

I like the pink mountains. the FG is a bit disturbing. Jared try to crop the bottom part and present it as horizontal long format (end the slope line slightly above the bottom left corner).

Miro,

I've done the crop you describe may times on the past when shooting at this location. I was trying to expand the compositional possibilities including some snow pattern and more foreground. The downside is you need the grassy hill to hide trail ridge road which is below, so the possibilities are a bit limiting.

The light, fantastic. And I like the slope as a foreground element. Really nice!

Hey Jared, I'm glad you found this spot. Not many folks get up there. I like this a lot! Well done! The only thing that bothers me is that it has a bit of that HDR feel. Perhaps using the blending feature in Photomatrix would give you a little more natural feel. Just a thought.

I really like the light on the mountains and the nice soft colours. The line of hills in the middle ground is also very nice. Overall the picture is really relaxing. Great job Jared!!!

How did I miss this shot? Anyway, I really like the light, color and layers. The brown tree in the middle drew my eye but that's not at all what I saw first. All about the colors for me. Also I agree with Erik's comment regarding the blending/fusion feature of Photomatix. I think it's way better than the HDR approach.

Regardless, really nice work.
