Magnolias are southern icons but I can count on less than 1 finger how many shots I have of them that I'm satisfied with. I think I broke the spell this morning. Found this early blooming tree near our local Starbucks. Spring is slowly coming. Hallelujah! >=))>

Bill,

It's almost impossible for me to see a magnolia image and not immediately compare it to Cunningham's iconic shot. For my tastes this compares very favorably. The fg wash is shapeless enough that it doesn't put me off and it does a good job of softening the harshness of the strong light on the front of the center. The light throughout the rest of the image is beautiful. As fine a color magnolia image as I've seen. Exceptional. I wish it were in my portfolio. (smile)

Bill, love it!
Why does it bug me a little that it's not level?

Beautiful, Bill ! Love the way the centre emerges as if out of a mist of petals with a real sense of something beginning to bloom.

Exceptional image of a very difficult subject, Bill. I have a magnolia tree right on my backyard hill and I don't have one single shot of it that I've kept. :toast:

Yeah it's pretty alright. But it reminds me of the dead brown stuff poking up through the snow outside.

Great composition. I like the way the critical center focus and the soft hues of pink in the petals. Not a single thing in bloom in New England, but we had our 2nd 50 degree day in a row so it won't be long

Ha! I think you broke the jinx, too, Bill. This is gorgeous. Nice cram. Perfect flower center. Aren't they something, though! The star magnolias are blooming here in the neighborhoods of Seattle. Haven't had a chance to get after yet, though.
