Laughing Kookaburra photographed on the New South Wales south coast. Mobs of these raucous kingfishers are a common sight in eastern Australia.

Canon 7D, EF70/200 f/4IS + 1.4 tc @ 124mm, handheld. ISO400, f/6.3, 1/160, vertical crop from horizontal image.

looks great Simon, I really like the comp here with the tree trunk anchoring the left and the perch coming off it. nice pose and details in the bird. kind of reminds me of a Thick-billed Kingbird on steroids.

I saw these once in a wildlife park, very neat birds, nice to see one in habitat, this is a great image. Nice head turn too.

Simon:
I don't remember seeing a photo of these birds. An impressive beak! Excellent details in the dark and light areas, nice eye contact, and I like the angle of the bird that provides such a nice view of the feathers of head, body, wings and tail. :toast:

A very beautiful image of this Kookaburra, love the light, setting, sharpness and details.

Just looking at this made the sound of the Kookaburra's come to mind and that evoked some very fond memories.

Very well done.

He looks very comfortable and relaxed in this fine pose. Excellent inclusion of habitat, framing him and giving context while not obscuring or competing with the subject. Although he appears to be quite a way up in the tree you managed to get an eye level shot, well done! :toast: :toast:
