San Hipolito Sunrise

San Hipolito is a remote beach on the southern coast of the Vizcaino peninsula on the Pacific coast of Baja. Normally I would be up well before sunrise to set up the tripod, but on this occasion I was snoring away in my tent, woke up, and saw the show disappearing before my eyes. Knowing the light would only last a minute or two more I just hand-held a 2 stop GND up to the lens and shot without the tripod at ISO 200. Seconds later the show was over. Sucks to be caught unprepared, but its still pretty sharp.

Not bad at all for such fast work with your eyes barely opened! Love the sky with the beams and clouds. The shoreline doesn't seem as impressive by comparison. Good comp. Perhaps a little light-handed fine tuning of the color would pop this out of its comfort zone.

It's not bad for such "fast" work and hand held. Love the sky here and the sunbeams. Nice comp.

Very nice sunrise scene!! Is it my eye, the cliffs in the BG, or can it use a slight CW rotation?? Who knows, still a pretty scene.

Terrific subject and comp! The processing needs a little tweaking: it seems a bit 'posterized' (contrast?) and the light on the sand should not be brighter than the sky above, maybe brighten the sky a bit.

Outstanding sunrise. The rays are remarkable and really like how the pebbles glow. Great image, especially being as this was sort of from the hip from your description.

Good show . . . both by the light and you. Quite and image for no tripod and a hand-held filter.

The rays, sunstar, and reflected color and light are spectacular Daniel. Liking it as is...

The rays of light are very effective here. They suck my eye right into the scene. The rocks on the beach mimic the clouds quite nicely.

The rocks/shells and the clouds match so nicely that this works really well!
