A brown thrasher photographed at White Rock lake park in Dallas, Texas. Photographed near a feeder. This shot is pretty much full frame.

D200 w/ nikkor MF 300/2.8 and TC 14

1/400 @ either f5.6 or f8 ISO 200

That's some beak ! Looks almost like a Long-billed Thrasher
I think you can add a little more saturation to this shot , and if you have it, some more room all around the bird, particularly in front Rob.

Great full frame shot with very nice detail. A little more room on the right side of the frame is my only suggestion.

Nick,

Any bird ID I make is definitely subject to scrutiny (except maybe for something like a cardinal or a blue jay). It may well be a long-billed thrasher. I am certainly not an expert birder and sure don't know as much about them as you but my guidebook says the long-bill has orange eyes and the brown thrasher has yellow eyes so that's why I went with brown thrasher. As for more room for the bird suggestion this guy landed on a limb so close that he filled the frame so not much I can do about the crop. thanks for your comments.

Laura,

Thanks for your comments. As explaineed above there was no more room on the right side.

Robert, you got a good looking pose here. The image looks rather bright to me, especially on the face and breast, I might try bringing it down a little and trying to get some more detail in the whites.

Robert,

I like the pose of your thrasher, the light in the bird's eye though I do wish for more space on the right side of the frame from a compositional viewpoint. Nice work on getting this bird relatively out in the open. Very nice to even be able to see the bristles at the base of the bill.

Good detail and eye contact (great to view the larger version). I also wish for a little more room in front but I understand you do not have that with the bird filling the frame. Nice job

This is nice Robert. These guys are tough to get in the open and you did well with this op. My only nit is the tightness of the area in front of the bird. The branch right in front of its beak makes the area feel tighter than it is. Not sure what I would do if this were mine, but I would try and give the bird a bit more room out front.

Nice thrasher Robert, a tough bird to get out in the open, I'd like a little more room on the right but it doesn't sound like you have it in the original and I'm sure you didn't have time to take the tc off. :toast:

Terrific work capturing the bird this far into the open. Nits noted by others, but I'd sure be happy with this shot.

Robert:
I like the dark BG and excellent detail for the entire bird. I enjoy seeing the clean, broken stripes on the thrasher.
